Jane says, I’m done with Sergio…
“Hate this song,” said Martin.
“Me too,” said Suze.
“How the hell do you even dance to it?”
Suze nodded to a girl waving her arms like noodles. “That way I guess.”
Martin eyed Suze sidelong. “You look good tonight, you know. Gabe’s an idiot.”
“He’s not,” she said. “He’s got a scholarship to you-oh-em. And it’s none of your business. And I don’t want to talk about it.”
“Fine. Just wanted you to know.”
Suze scoffed. “I know. I put a lot of time into it.”
“How do I look?”
“Thanks. I picked up what was on the floor and put it on.”
“Looks like it.” Suze appraised Martin with a cocked eyebrow. “Never, ever change.”
Martin shrugged. “Couldn’t if I wanted to.”
She don’t mean no harm. She just don’t know what else to do about it.
“What’s this song about anyway?” said Suze.
Martin leaned in close. He spoke the lyrics. “Jane says she’s never been in love. She don’t know what it is. Only knows if someone wants her.”
Suze smiled. “I want them if they want me. I only know they want me.”
